Traditional folk dolls representing Central or Eastern European regional costumes—and based on the embroidery, colors, and style, they look especially close to Polish, Slovak, or Czech folk attire.
The doll on the left (female):
- Headwear: She is wearing a close-fitting red bonnet or headscarf, which historically indicated a woman's marital or regional status.
- Blouse & Vest: Features characteristic puff sleeves with delicate white lace trim at the collar and cuffs, layered under a decorative black and red embroidered bodice/vest (kordulka).
- Skirt & Apron: A highly detailed, pleated skirt layered with lace inserts and a vibrant, floral-patterned ribbon sash tied at the waist.
This combination is very typical of Polish “Krakowiak” or Slovak village dress.
The doll on the right (male):
- Hat: A traditional black cap (klobúk) decorated with a white ribbon bow and small faux floral accents.
- Shirt & Vest: A white wide-sleeved shirt paired with a festive vest featuring bright red edging and colorful green, yellow, and red embroidery.
- Sash & Trousers: He has a long, elaborately embroidered white floral sash draped over his shoulder, tucked into tight red trousers, and finished with tall black folk boots.
These dolls feature molded plastic heads with hand-painted facial features, while the bodies are plastic. Their feet and hands are rubber.
They measure 8 inches tall and each one comes with a stand.
They were incredibly popular souvenirs for travelers visiting Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Poland during the Cold War era, serving as a prideful celebration of regional Slavic heritage.
The hat with ribbons is a strong clue—this is iconic in Polish Kraków region folk costume (strój krakowski), but similar styles appear in parts of Slovakia and Moravia (Czech Republic).
